Created in 2012, this Group 1 Pre-1981 series for classics with specs was born out of the need for a championship with controlled participation costs to the fullest, meeting the English “Club Racing” spirit. This competition is always disputed to the class, rewarding the great effort of the teams and riders that run in each of the classes, creating in practice the possibility of attending several championships within a championship.
Today, whether in Portugal or in countries such as England or France, Group 1 races have provided very well-contested, ultra-competitive, ever-growing races. In addition, the value of these cars has been rising as there are increasing interest in Europe to participate in these competitions.
The championship is based on the regulation of series tourism (Gr.1), an extremely successful regulation, mainly between 1970 and 1981, which allows to overcome the difficulty in finding homologated and original pieces, without great cost increases.
A permanent presence on the track since the 1960s, the MINI has always been an icon of auto racing.
The MINI Trophy is for the MK4 SPI and MPI models, according to English “Mighty MINI” rules. This configuration makes purchasing a car very affordable with even lower maintenance as all parts are basically standard.
This test is guided by three basic principles: fun, elegance and competitiveness. Despite the low purchase price, it is crucial for drivers and teams to realize that it is a classic car trophy and that the results will not lead any driver to Formula 1.
